If one were to find a building on earth that perfectly matches these two words, it would be the International Congress Center Berlin (ICC) in Ger-many. Since its inauguration in 1979, the lCC has been sitting there like a dormant starship, waiting to receive some kind of signal to lift off again. The two designers of the lCC, Ralf Schüler and Ursulina Schüler-Witte have incorporated a great deal of their own concepts into the building giving it the legacy of the reinforced concrete buildings of the 1960s, but also a dramatic aura with a sci-fi shell. This self-sustaining convention center in the context of contemporary urban architecture has a subtle quality that has served as a source of inspiration for countless artists.
